Welcome to United States History

Here at Centralia Middle School, history class looks a little different. For years educators have known that students have a wide range of learning styles (students, and adults, learn in different ways) If this is true, why is the textbook the primary method teachers use to teach history?  At Centralia Middle School we have a different approach.  Simulations, mock trials, mini-dramas, storytelling and a wide variety of interactive lessons have replaced the textbook as the dominant source for learning history. Each unit incorporates as many different learning styles as possible. Parents and educators, I invite you to come in and take a look at not only what, but also how, your 8th grade students are learning history.

Edmodo is a Facebook-Style communication tool for Students, Teachers and Parents.  Teachers can add assignments, create groups for discussion, and provide links to valuable learning websites.  Students can chat about upcoming assignments, earn on-line badges, and receive extra credit points.  Teachers can communicate with teachers, and monitor their student's progress, and maybe even learn a little history themselves.
